The state Department of Health's Covid Map today for the Big Island shows 11 to 50 active cases for Nāʻālehu to South Point and the Ocean View area, and one to ten for Pāhala and Volcano. Most other parts of the island are harder hit.

NA`ALEHU AND OCEAN VIEW ZIP CODES are showing an increase in COVID-19 cases. The 96722 zip code, which includes residents from Nāʻālehu through Wai'ohinu, Green Sand, Mark Twain, Discovery Harbour and South Point and Kama'oa Roads, has four new cases reported today, with 11 active and a total of 47 since March of 2020.

     On the state map, the color for Nāʻālehu has changed from light blue, indicating one to ten cases, to a blue green, showing 11 to 50 cases. Ocean View is also blue green. 
    The report shows one new case in Ocean View, with active cases at 15, and 91 total COVID cases since March, 2020. 
    Pāhala zip code 96777 reported no new cases today. There are ten or fewer active cases with a total of 36 since March 2020. 
    Volcano zip code 96785 reported no new cases since Aug. 31 and has one to ten active cases, with total  of 37 cases since March of 2020.

    There were ten new deaths reported Sunday, statewide with one woman, between 40-49 years of age on this island, who suffered from underlying conditions and was hospitalized.
     New case counts today were 100 on this island, 731 statewide.

Punalu`u Beach Park Facilities are taped off during Labor Day weekend as are the picnic areas at Honu`apo beach park.
No camping or using the facilities is allowed until further notice, due to the pandemic.

MAYOR MITCH ROTH PLEADED WITH FOLKS TO REFRAIN from large gatherings this Labor Day holiday weekend and posted his photo, saying, "Vaccinated or not, it’s still all of #OurKuleana. Mahalo to all of you in our community who continue to do what’s right to keep your friends and family safe. We can’t do it without you. Our county, our kuleana." 
 
DURING MONDAY'S LABOR DAY HOLIDAY, Punalu`u, Honu'apo and other county beach park picnic facilities around the island will remain off limits and are taped off. Restrooms, and showers are closed. Pop-up tents and canopies are prohibited. 
    Beachgoers and those participating in group sports at the beach and other county parks are asked to stay in pods of ten, with 20 ft. distance between each group.
