RESULTS FOR THE FALL RODEO FOR KAʻŪ ROPING & RIDING have been released. The Fall Rodeo was recently held at Nāʻālehu Rodeo Grounds.
    Organizer Tammy Ka'apana reports that winners of Open Team Roping were Troy Wood and Ina Ynigues. Winning Kane/Wahine Team Roping were Tasha Nobriga and Alfred Nobriga. Winning Century Team Rooping were Danny Joseph and Gilbert Smith. Winning Double Mugging were Danny Joseph and Randell Kahele, Jr. 
    Winning Kane Wahine Ribbon Mugging were Laurel Yanagi and Ina Ynigues. Winning Wahine Mugging were Lorilee Lorenzo and Jayssa Grace.
     Zayvin Menino won Po'O Wai U and Tie Down Roping. Paisley Menino won Wahine Breakaway. Hilai Karratti won Youth Barrels. Elie-Mari Jose won Goat Undercorating for kieki four and under. Katum Malicki won Goat Undecorating for ages five and under. Colton William Gomes won Dummy Roping for the four and under contestants. Hiilei Karratti won Dummy Roping for those five to eight years of age.

THE ONLINE OPEN HOUSE FOR UPDATING THE COUNTY ZONING AND SUBDIVISION CODES closes on Sunday, Nov. 13. The County of Hawai'i is reaching out to the public to participate.
The last comprehensive reviews and updates were in 1983 and 1996. The current process is for 18 months
and includes several rounds of virtual and in-person engagements with the community. "The intent of the code updates are to increase consistency and predictability, incorporate best land use practices in land use and zoning, promote desirable and equitable development and to meet the needs of the Hawai'i Island community," says the message from the County. A FIRE BURNED DOWN A SMALL HOUSE IN OCEAN VIEW Tuesday morning. Hawai'i Fire Department Company 20 "found unoccupied single story wooden structure residence fully engulfed in flames; approximate size 528 squ. ft." Firefighters extinguished the blaze and said the cause is undetermined. According to the Fire Department, the unoccupied, unpermitted structure was located on one acre at 92-2187 Ohia Dr. The alarm was received at 3:06 a.m. Fire was under control by 3:25 a.m. and out by 4:20 a.m.  Firefighters returned to quarters by 5:16 a.m. The Fire Department set a value of the lost building at $60,720.

FOURTEEN WERE ARRESTED FOR DUI on Hawai'i Island during the week of Oct.17 - 23. Hawai‘i Island arrested the motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. One was involved in a traffic accident. Nonewere under the age of 21.
    So far this year, there are 802 DUI arrests compared with 861 during the same period last year, a decrease of 6.9 percent.
    There are 665 major accidents so far this year compared with 649 during the same period last year, an increase of 2.5 percent.
    To date, there are 29 fatal crashes (one fatal crash reclassified on 05/30/22 due to a medical condition) resulting in 31 fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths, and one reclassified due to a medical condition), compared with 21 fatal crashes, resulting in 21 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 38.1 percent for fatal crashes, and 47.6 percent for fatalities.
    Police promise that DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.

VOLCANO ARTISTS STUDIO TOUR RETURNS Thanksgiving Weekend. The Volcano Village Artists Hui Annual Studio Tour & Sale comes back this year with a full slate of artists. Now in its 36th year, the tour will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 25 - 27, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. each day. Four studio and gallery locations will open their doors to the public, with a wide range of artwork on display and available for purchase in a variety of styles and price ranges.

Volcano Village Artists Studio Tour, Thanksgiving weekend.

    Participating artists include Margaret Barnaby (woodblock prints) at her studio with Mike and Misato Mortara (hand blown art glass). Ira Ono (fine art & exquisite gifts) will be at Volcano Garden Arts. Charlotte Forbes Perry (ceramic tiles & stained glass), Joan Yoshioka (original paintings & prints) and Emily Herb (pottery & sculptural clay vessels) will be showing their work at the 2400 Fahrenheit Glass Studio, and the Mortara's glass gallery at this location will also be open.
    Hui members Elizabeth Miller (paintings, prints and mixed media) and Ricia Shema (vintage silk clothing and bags) will be set up in Hale Hoʻomana at the Niaulani Campus of the Volcano Art Center, along with guest artists Scott Pincus (handmade silver jewelry) and Phan Barker (quilts, woodblock prints & mixed media).
    Check the Hui website for more information and a map to the studios. For everyoneʻs health and safety, masks may be required at some studios. For a less crowded, and more relaxed shopping experience, consider attending on Saturday or Sunday.
